European Grant Procedure

Applicants go through multiple steps to obtain a granted patent for EPO filing. EPO must first grant the patent and then allow it to be validated within the various EP member states. PLS provides all translation and filing services associated with EP validation.

Translation of French and German claims - Communication 71(3)

Communication 71(3) or the Intent to Grant is the issued by the EPO when it intends to grant the applicant the patent. It is typically accompanied by a copy of the patent text requesting that a translation of the claims into French and German are be submitted for filing along with grant payments and publishing fees. PLS provides translation of claims services quickly for filing with the EPO. Upon acceptance of the claims translation and fees, the EPO issues a Decision to Grant; this triggers the publication of the grant date.

EP Validation

Upon receipt of the notice of grant, applicants have three months from the published date to validate the patent in the desired European states. PLS manages this entire EP validation process and provides translation services required by various European countries. This includes submission of PoA forms, and finally a timely validation of the patent. Confirmation and official patent office certificates are collected, organized, and delivered to the client.
